POCAHONTAS, Ark. – “Dearly Departed” debuts at the newly renovated Downtown Playhouse in Pocahontas on Friday, July 20. The comedy about a dysfunctional Southern family dealing with the death of its patriarch runs through August 11.
The play had been set to open July 14, but the date was moved back to allow for the completion of the theatre’s exterior renovation.
“Dearly Departed” portrays the beleaguered Turpin family as it tries to set aside its differences for the funeral of its father, Bud. Their efforts prove chaotic and often hilarious, especially when joined by the gang of misfits who comprise their friends and family.
“Dearly Departed” is sponsored by Patrick Carroll, D. D. S. and McNabb Funeral Homes, and it is directed by Kelly Grooms. Performance dates are July 20, 21, 22, 27 and 28, and August 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11.
Tickets are $19.20, including tax, and the cost of admission also covers beverage and dessert. Dessert options for the show are: strawberry creme pie, key lime pie, triple chocolate cake and sugar-free parfait.
