Rugby Withdraws From Texas Tournament Due to Injuries

JONESBORO – Due to a large number of injured players, Arkansas State University’s rugby team has withdrawn from play in the Texas Red River 7s National Invitational Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, Friday, Sept. 22.

“We had to cancel from the tournament due to injuries,” said first-year head coach Blake White. “I’m very saddened to have to make the call, but it had to be done. We’ve got a long season ahead of us that we need everyone healthy for.”

In addition to A-State, other invited teams include the University of Southern California, the University of Texas, the University of North Texas and Texas Christian University.

Rugby Union Growth Benefits Youth (RUGBY), a charitable organization based in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, is hosting the event.

A-State will open the home slate, Saturday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at Curt Huckaby Field.
