Saturday wreck in Poinsett Co. claims life of Turrell man

LEPANTO, Ark. – A Turrell man died from injuries sustained in a wreck at Lepanto Saturday evening, an Arkansas State Police crash report said.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday night, August 26, Samuel B. Marshall, 59, of Turrell, Ark. was driving a 2005 Pontiac south on State Highway 135, the report by Cpl. Dwight Griffith said. At 8:50 p.m., the Pontiac left the roadway to the right. It then came back onto the roadway, over-correcting, and left the roadway to the left. The vehicle struck a tree, the report states.

Marshall was transported to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Raul Cargenas.

The report states roads were dry and weather was clear at the time of the wreck.

While the accident happened on Saturday, the report was not released until Tuesday night, August 29. The report also stated next of kin were not notified, possibly indicating difficulty authorities had in reaching relatives.
