JONESbORO, Ark. – The City of Jonesboro’s recycling system will be slightly altered beginning July 1, and residents will begin receiving information packets from Abilities Unlimited next week to help them plan for the change.
To help Abilities Unlimited meet the financial burden of its recycling contract with City, the City Council approved a move to a twice-monthly schedule of Blue Bag pickup beginning in July. Starting next week, recyclers will find a packet containing a sticker reminding them what days to put out trash and recycling for regular pickup in their neighborhoods. They can affix the stickers to their trash bins.
Recycling will be picked up twice monthly on normal weekly trash-pickup day, either the first and third trash day of the month or the second and fourth, depending on neighborhood.
“This is a temporary solution to help Abilities Unlimited and the City see the current contract through without additional costs to the taxpayer. We anticipate we will still collect the same amount of recycling under this schedule,” Jonesboro Chief Operations Officer Ed Tanner said. “Their contract expires next summer, and we are looking at all options on how to best and economically serve those who recycle in Jonesboro over the long term.”
Jonesboro recycling is done via home pickup through its Blue Bag program. Blue Bags can be picked up at the Municipal Building, 300 S. Church St., at the Collections window, or at the Public Works Department, 2601 Dan Ave.
