Bomb squad blows up briefcase

JONESBORO, Ark. – In an “abundance of caution,” a parking lot of a local business was sealed off while the bomb squad responded and detonated a briefcase Tuesday afternoon, May 16, in Jonesboro.

At approximately 2:26pm, Jonesboro officers responded to a call of a suspicious item in the parking lot of Sam’s Club at 2405 S. Caraway Road. The item was described as an older briefcase of average size.

Upon the arrival of responding officers, they did locate the briefcase and determined that it was abandoned and did appear out of place, the release said.

In an abundance of caution,  JPD contacted the Arkansas State Police Bomb Squad for their assistance. ASP responded and troopers helped clear the area of the parking lot where the briefcase was located.

The bomb squad arrived on scene. KAIT reported the squad first x-rayed the briefcase and then blew it up.

The JPD release said they were able to determine that the package was innocuous and did not pose a danger.
