Russian String Orchestra to Perform at Fowler Center, Feb. 11

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, will present the Russian String Orchestra as its next performance in the 2016-17 Riceland Distinguished Performance Series on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m.  The sponsor of the show is Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Founded in 1991, the Russian String Orchestra, formerly known as the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, is comprised of some of Russia’s finest young string players. It has carved a niche for itself under the creative baton of its founder and music director Misha Rachlevsky. The Russian String Orchestra’s warmth and high energy create addictive performances that stay with listeners long after the last note has been played, a spokesman said.

Orchestra auditions attract dozens of highly qualified applicants, as it is one of the most desired places to work. Rachlevsky, molds the musicians to produce the sound he hears in his head.

About half of nearly 2,000 concerts the orchestra has performed to date have taken place in Moscow, the rest were played on tours in 25 countries on four continents. The orchestra’s discography of over 30 CDs has received widespread international acclaim.

The signature quality of the orchestra is the depth and variety of its repertoire — over 1,000 compositions from early baroque to works written on commission from Rachlevsky and the orchestra by composers from Russia, Europe and the USA.  The orchestra prides itself in offering interesting and often unique programs.

All seating is reserved.
