JONESBORO, Ark. – A small child allegedly brought a BB Gun to school Friday in Jonesboro.
Before 10 a.m. Friday morning, Officer Sheridan Watts was serving as school resource officer at Nettleton High School when he was contacted by middle school principal Greg Rainwater about a possible student with a BB gun.
The officer arrived and met with the 11-year-old boy, going to his locker with the principal. The officer asked the boy if he had anything in his backpack and the boy said, “I don’t think so but sometimes, my little brother puts toys and stuff in there that I don’t know about.”
As the officer unzipped the bag, the boy’s face revealed the truth. He began to cry and confess to the officer, the report said. He then told police and the principal his brother had put the BB gun in his backpack that morning.
However, when he found it, instead of coming to the office, the 11-year-old boy said he showed the gun to at least three students.
He was cited for misdemeanor carrying a weapon and will face the charge in juvenile court. The gun was taken and logged into evidence.
