JONESBORO, Ark. – A busted tail-light led to the arrest of a man on suspicions of having drugs with a gun.
At midnight Sunday, Jonesboro Police Department’s Trey Chism noticed a blue passenger car headed south down Marshall Street. The left brake light was out and the vehicle didn’t have license plate illumination, so Chism began a traffic stop at 1830 East Johnson Avenue in Jonesboro. Chism noticed a smell of marijuana and radioed for backup.
With additional officers arriving on the scene, the driver told police Steffon Deeandre Hunter, 18, of Jonesboro, had a gun and some scales. Officers searched the vehicle and found a pistol and a bag of pot. A juvenile, also in the vehicle, was on probation and taken to jail.
Hunter was arrested. While being transported to jail, police noticed he was moving around an unusual amount, according to the incident report. He also was reaching for his shoe. When they arrived at the jail, a small bag containing what was believed to be cocaine was discovered.
Hunter is facing felony charges of possession of cocaine, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and tampering with physical evidence. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for the weed.
The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning and let go.
