JONESBORO, Ark. – While the motivations aren’t clear, the results of the attack sent a young man to the hospital and police are looking for his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

Authorities were called to NEA Baptist ER early Wednesday morning over an assault which had already occurred. A 20-year-old, along with two concerned parents, was being treated for an assault the night before at about 11:30 p.m. According to the report, the victim was lying in bed when Joey Rushing, 19, of Jonesboro, knocked on the door. The victim’s roommate opened the door and let the suspect in, who “immediately stormed to” the victim’s room, the report says.

While the victim was lying in bed, the suspect reportedly started beating him with a closed fist. The victim said he tried kicking Rushing off but he couldn’t and the victim was hit a number of times. He said Rushing left for a few minutes and returned, and starting hitting the victim once again.

Police took photos of the victim’s injuries. Officer Casey Moore was the responding officer and made an observation indicating he believed the victim.

“I believe (the victim’s) injuries are consistent with what he stated,” Moore wrote. “On (his) forehead, it looked like the impression of a ring. (His) face had multiple bruising and his right eye was starting to swell. (He) also had scratches on his neck and left arm.”

Rushing could a charge of battery.
