Man arrested in Thursday night shooting

JONESBORO, Ark. – A man was shot multiple times on Thursday night and his suspected assailant has been arrested.

Officers across Jonesboro were dispatched at 9:11 p.m. Thursday to a shots fired call on Fairview Drive – and a person who had been shot on Meador Avenue.

Officers first responded to Meador, where they located Aremon Wilkins, 28, of Jonesboro in a residence. He had been twice, according to a news release from Jonesboro Police Department Sgt. Cassie Brandon. He was taken to the hospital, treated, and later released. Injuries were non-life threatening.

Police believe the shooter is Cordell Hughes, 26, of Jonesboro. He was arrested Thursday night after officers found him hiding in a home at 3204 Fairview Drive, according to the news release. Hughes is accused of shooting Wilkins in the front yard of 3204 Fairview Drive.

Hughes is currently being held at the Craighead County Detention Center. He is expected to have a probable cause hearing Friday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. for the charges of battery 1st degree and possession of a firearm by certain persons.
