McCrory officer dies after hitting deer

MCCRORY, Ark. – A law enforcement officer from McCrory has died in the line of duty.

Officer Robert Baker, 26, of McCrory, was driving north on Arkansas Highway 17, south of Patterson, to assist a Woodruff County sheriff’s deputy. At approximately 5 a.m., his patrol car struck a deer in the road, according to a news release from Arkansas State Police.

The officer crashed as a result of the collision with the animal. He was transported to a Searcy hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Baker was a four-year veteran at the McCrory Police Department, the release said.
