UPDATE: The suspect who took the Corvette on a joyride completely totaled the vehicle Thursday.

Authorities processed the wreckage at Central Collision Repair on Thursday after the wreckage was recovered.

The suspect faces a felony charge of vehicle theft valued at over $25,000.

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man took inspiration from the Fast and Furious franchise on Wednesday afternoon after he reportedly stole a nearly $70,000 Corvette directly off the sales lot.

Central Chevrolet Cadillac, 3207 South Stadium Boulevard in Jonesboro, reported a vehicle had been stolen on Wednesday while a salesman was showing the car. The vehicle was a 2016 black Chevrolet Corvette, the report said, valued at $68,365.

The salesman told police the suspect was shown the corvette before it was decided it was priced too high for what the suspect intended to spend. The suspect and salesman both began to walk towards another area to look at a different car when the suspect asked to look at the key to the Corvette.

The salesman opened his hand to reveal the key when the next thing he knew the suspect had grabbed it from him, ran to the Corvette and drove off the property before anyone could stop him.

The suspect was only described as being a younger, well-dressed black male. He was last seen heading South on I-555.

Photos of the stolen Corvette were available on the dealership’s website.
