JONESBORO, Ark. – A curious report of an armed robbery in Jonesboro was made to police Tuesday morning.
Police were dispatched to a local pawn shop to take a report from a female claiming her and a friend had seen a man riding his bicycle, but when they stopped to give him a ride at Barrett Circle, he had instead pulled a black handgun on both of them and stolen their money.
The incident was not reported for over a week. The female said she had contacted the suspect several times and he told her to come get her money but she was never able to reach him.
Officers went to the suspect’s address and, through the phone, made contact with the suspect. However, his account of events was slightly different.
The suspect told officers the woman gave him money “to purchase weed and he just took the money.”
The female was advised of her rights. She was also told if she were filing a false police report, she would be charged with that and go to jail.
“She insisted she was telling the truth,” the officer reported.
Robbery at gunpoint is considered aggravated robbery, a felony.
