Foundation of Arts to Celebrate 40 Years Sunday in Jonesboro

The Foundation of Arts will mark its 40th anniversary Sunday in downtown Jonesboro with live music, tours, art displays and a program highlighting its next chapter.

JONESBORO, Ark. — The Foundation of Arts will celebrate its 40th anniversary with live music, facility tours and art displays from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at 115 E. Monroe Ave. in downtown Jonesboro.

The celebration will include appearances by characters from “House of Villains” and a special reveal tied to the nonprofit’s continued growth, according to an announcement from the organization. A brief program will begin at 3:15 p.m. in the Forum Theatre.

The event will recognize four decades of arts education and productions, along with the artists, educators, volunteers, patrons and supporters who have contributed to the organization.

The Foundation of Arts offers opportunities for people ages 3 through adulthood to participate in the arts.

“Forty years represents an amazing accomplishment,” said Lynette Hirsch, the organization’s executive director. “We are celebrating the people who have made this organization what it is today while looking ahead to what we can accomplish together.”

The anniversary comes as the nonprofit invests in facility improvements. In October, it completed a $75,000 update to its theatrical fly system, the stage equipment used to raise and lower scenery and other production elements. The work was funded through the organization’s 2023 Giving Campaign.

New flooring and mirrors also have improved the former theater room for classes and artistic development. The organization is offering naming sponsorship opportunities for individuals, families and businesses to support its facilities and programming.

The Foundation of Arts also highlighted a Public Art Commission mural project by artist Natausha Light, supported by a grant from Arvest Bank. The project is intended to bring more public art to downtown Jonesboro.

Looking ahead, the organization said its goals include expanded arts education, stronger community partnerships, new programming and additional ways to bring arts opportunities to people throughout northeast Arkansas.

“We want to continue dreaming and creating opportunities for all ages and abilities to discover their talents, find their voices, and experience the arts as an essential part of a thriving community,” Hirsch said.
