JONESBORO, Ark. — Cameron Kentray Guel faces a felony assault charge after a woman told Jonesboro police he repeatedly grabbed her throat during an altercation inside a vehicle, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Officers responding to a domestic disturbance Monday, Sept. 28, found Guel with blood on his clothing, scratches and a torn shirt collar. Guel told officers the woman and another person had assaulted him. He said he had restrained the woman but did not explain how, the affidavit states.
Police later spoke with the woman at another location. Officers reported swelling around both of her eyes and her nose, scratches and marks on her neck that they described as consistent with strangulation.
The woman said Guel grabbed her throat while they were inside a vehicle, let go long enough for her to breathe and then grabbed her again. She told officers she struck him while trying to get him off her. A witness told detectives they saw Guel on top of the woman, choking her, and pulled him off, according to the affidavit.
Guel faces a Class D felony charge of aggravated assault on a family or household member and a Class A misdemeanor charge of third-degree domestic battery. Judge Thomas Fowler found probable cause, set bond at $25,000 cash or surety and ordered Guel to have no contact with the woman. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 26.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
