JONESBORO, Ark. — A man is accused of pointing a handgun at a woman while a 1-year-old child sat beside her in a carrier outside a Jonesboro apartment, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Tyrek Mehki Coleman faces two Class D felony charges: aggravated assault on a family or household member and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. Court records also list two Class C misdemeanors: third-degree assault on a family or household member and disorderly conduct.
Jonesboro police responded Sept. 13 to an apartment complex on Stadium Boulevard after a report of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm, the affidavit states.
The woman told officers she had gone to Coleman’s apartment to retrieve her belongings. While she was inside, Coleman argued with her and threw food at her, according to the affidavit.
She left the apartment and went into the parking lot, where Coleman followed her, became physical and pointed a handgun directly at her, the affidavit alleges. The child was seated beside her in a carrier at the time.
An independent witness told police she saw the physical assault and Coleman pointing the firearm at the woman, according to the affidavit.
After arresting Coleman, officers found a loose handgun round in his pocket. Police also recovered a handgun matching the woman’s description, the affidavit states.
Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Sept. 14 and set Coleman’s bond at $35,000 cash or surety. Release conditions include a no-contact order and a prohibition on committing any offense punishable by incarceration.
Coleman’s next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 26 in Craighead County Circuit Court in Jonesboro, according to the court documents.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
