JONESBORO, Ark. — A man accused of breaking into a Jonesboro home, stealing money and later threatening the resident is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Larry Lywayne Hunter faces charges of residential burglary, theft of $1,000 or less and harassment, according to court records.
Jonesboro police responded June 22 to a home on North Patrick Street after the resident reported that someone had entered through a rear window while she was at work. Money was reportedly taken from a bedroom.
The resident told investigators that Hunter sent her messages claiming he had entered the bedroom while looking for a male who owed him money.
“Just so you know I went thru your bedroom window and looked around for him,” one message stated, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Police said Hunter sent additional messages acknowledging that he had broken into the home and warning the resident against contacting law enforcement.
Investigators also obtained video footage allegedly showing Hunter in the area around the time the messages were sent.
Hunter appeared Wednesday, Aug. 12, before Circuit Judge Tommy Fowler. His bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety, and a no-contact order was issued. The public defender’s office was appointed to represent him.
Handwritten notes on the court filing indicate Hunter was on probation and already out on bond. The notes also reference a failure-to-appear history and residential burglary history.
Residential burglary is a Class B felony punishable by five to 20 years in prison. Theft and harassment are Class A misdemeanors, each punishable by up to one year in jail.
Hunter’s next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 30 at the Craighead County Courthouse.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
