PARAGOULD, Ark. — A staff member at a Greene County day care is accused of dragging a 3-year-old across a turf play area by the ankles, leaving four abrasions along the child’s back and ribs.
Jayden Grider faces one count of second-degree battery, a Class D felony, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed in Greene County District Court.
The alleged incident occurred July 24 at a day care facility that was not identified in the affidavit.
The Arkansas Crimes Against Children Division and Paragould Police Department received a hotline report July 28 concerning injuries the child allegedly suffered at the facility.
According to the report, the child had been placed in a timeout and began hitting themself. Investigators alleged Grider then grabbed the child by the ankles and pulled the child toward her, causing extensive abrasions along the child’s back and rib cage.
Investigators said video showed Grider sitting across from the child, who was beside an assigned teacher. Grider allegedly reached across, grabbed the child’s ankles and dragged the child across the turf play area to where she was sitting.
Photographs reportedly showed four abrasions along the child’s back and ribs.
During an interview, Grider acknowledged grabbing the child by the ankles and pulling the child toward her, according to the affidavit. Investigators said she also acknowledged knowing about the injuries but failing to report them to her supervisor.
Detective Lt. Jack Hailey submitted the affidavit Thursday. District Judge Curtis Hitt found probable cause for Grider’s arrest.
The court set a $75,000 surety bond and ordered Grider to have no contact with the child, witnesses or others involved in the case.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
