PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Rector resident faces a felony battery charge after police said video showed her dragging a 4-year-old child down a hallway by an ankle at AR Kids.
Nola D. Burney faces one count of second-degree battery, a Class D felony, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene County District Court.
Officers responded July 27 to AR Kids following a report of child abuse, Detective Sgt. Jacob L. Higdon wrote in the affidavit. Parents and staff told officers Burney had dragged the child down the hallway by an ankle.
Documents and video obtained from AR Kids showed Burney dragging the child on the afternoon of July 24, according to the affidavit.
Officers later contacted the child at a local residence and reported observing small bruises around both ankles.
A judge found probable cause July 27 and set Burney’s bond at $100,000 surety.
As conditions of release, Burney is prohibited from contacting the alleged victim, witnesses or anyone else involved in the case. She was also ordered to live a law-abiding life.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
