LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Department of Health is reminding families that health units across the state can provide vaccinations and records needed to enroll students for the 2026-27 school year.
The department operates at least one Arkansas Health Unit in every county.
Health officials said vaccinations help protect students and their families from preventable illnesses, including measles, whooping cough and chickenpox. All health units accept insurance, but people without coverage can still receive immunization services at no charge.
Families are encouraged to contact their local health unit to schedule an appointment or learn about upcoming vaccination clinics.
Parents and guardians who need a child’s immunization record may request one by emailing immunization.section@arkansas.gov or calling 1-800-574-4040. A request form and information about vaccinations required for Arkansas students are also available through the Department of Health’s website.
Birth certificates may be requested in person at any Arkansas Health Unit or the state Vital Records office in Little Rock. Same-day service is available in most cases, according to the department.
Records may also be ordered through the department’s website, requested by mail or ordered by calling 866-209-9482.
Birth certificates may be issued to the parents listed on the certificate, maternal grandparents, a legal guardian or the person named on the certificate if that person is at least 16.
Applicants must provide a valid form of identification containing a photo, current address, signature and unique identifying number or barcode. Accepted documents include a driver’s license, identification card, passport or visa.
The first copy of a birth certificate costs $12. Additional copies cost $10 each.
