PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man faces multiple charges after police said a family argument escalated into an assault and an armed threat involving a rifle.
Danny Martin is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony; one count of first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony; and one count of third-degree domestic battering, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Paragould Police Department officers responded Sept. 5 to a disturbance on Michelle Drive after receiving a report that a firearm had been pulled.
Police found three adult family members outside the residence. Investigators said they were told Martin had punched his stepson in the face during an argument. The stepson told officers he punched Martin back while Martin was assaulting him.
The affidavit alleges Martin then went into a back room, loaded a rifle and returned with the weapon. Family members told police they heard the rifle being “cocked” before Martin came from the room and pointed the gun at all three of them.
While pointing the firearm, Martin allegedly told them he was “going to kill someone,” according to the affidavit. The three family members then left the house and contacted law enforcement.
Officers documented injuries to both Martin and his stepson. The stepson declined evaluation by emergency medical personnel, while Martin was taken into custody and transported by EMS to a local hospital. He was later released and booked into the Greene County Jail.
A judge found probable cause for Martin’s arrest and set bond at $150,000, with the court document indicating a surety bond was permitted.
Conditions of release include no contact with the victims or witnesses in the case and a prohibition against possessing weapons.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
