BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas Northeastern College says its internship program has become a major part of workforce development in the region since launching in 2010 through a partnership with Nucor-Yamato Steel.
According to information provided by the college, the program began as an effort to give students hands-on experience in the steel industry before expanding to include Nucor Steel Arkansas and other employers.
Since the program started, 238 students have participated, with a 98% placement rate, ANC said.
The college said the program currently serves 43 students from Northeast Arkansas, Southeast Missouri and West Tennessee. Those students are placed with nine companies in fields including steel manufacturing, aviation maintenance and HVAC.
ANC said the internships are all paid, allowing students to earn wages while continuing their education and gaining experience in career-focused fields.
College officials said the program is designed to help students move directly from the classroom into the workforce. By partnering with regional employers, ANC said students are often offered full-time jobs after graduation.
ANC said the internship program remains a key part of its effort to support student success while helping meet workforce needs across the region.
