Randolph County Heritage Museum to Host World War I Exhibit

Pocahontas, Arkansas – The Randolph County Heritage Museum will host The Great War: Arkansas in World War I, a free traveling exhibit highlighting Arkansas’s role during World War I both at home and on the battlefield. The exhibit will be on display Tuesday, April 14 through Saturday, April 25 at the museum, located at 106 E. Everett Street, Pocahontas, Arkansas.

“The Randolph County Heritage Museum is honored to present this important exhibit and offer our community a deeper understanding of Arkansas’s contributions during World War I,” said Dr. Rodney Harris, President of the Randolph County Heritage Museum.

The exhibit features 12 panels showcasing images and materials from the Arkansas State Archives, including original documents, photographs, posters, maps, and historical artifacts. Visitors will gain a first-hand look at the experiences of Arkansans during the war. The exhibit explores key aspects of the conflict, including troop training in Arkansas, overseas service, the home front, wartime production, healthcare efforts, and the stories of Arkansas soldiers.

“I am very pleased that the Randolph County Heritage Museum is sharing The Great War: Arkansas in World War I with their visitors and community,” said Julienne Crawford, Curator for the Arkansas State Archives. “This exhibit, created to commemorate the centennial of America’s entry into World War I, powerfully highlights the impact of this global conflict, including the service of more than 70,000 Arkansans.”

This exhibit is funded in part by grants from the Arkansas Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council.

Founded in 1905, the Arkansas State Archives is dedicated to collecting and preserving the documentary history of Arkansas. As part of Arkansas Heritage, the Archives work to promote the discovery, preservation, and presentation of the state’s natural, cultural, and historic resources.
