Suspect Accused of Attempted Robbery, Breaking Into Apartment After Assault

JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect was arrested after police say he assaulted a man, threatened to kill him and later entered the victim’s apartment, taking property.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Jonesboro Police Department, officers were called Feb. 16, 2026, to the area of Eldridge Street and State Street regarding an assault that had just occurred.

The alleged victim reported he was meeting Jaheim Kyjuan Hooks, 24, to have sex when Hooks demanded money and became upset when the victim did not produce funds. The alleged victim told police Hooks claimed he had a gun and placed him in a choke hold while punching him in the face, causing injury to his left ear.

The alleged victim said he believed Hooks was reaching for his center console, thinking it was where he kept a firearm, and was able to fight back and get out of the vehicle. While the alleged victim was running away, Hooks allegedly yelled that he was going to kill him.

After the altercation, police said Hooks entered the alleged victim’s apartment while the victim was giving a statement to officers and broke the victim’s television and stole his gaming console.

Hooks was arrested on charges of criminal attempt, a Class A felony; residential burglary, a Class B felony; first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony; third-degree battery; theft; and criminal mischief.

Judge Barbara Halsey set bail at $100,000 and ordered Hooks to wear an ankle monitor and have no contact with the victim. His next court date is March 20.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
