Woman Charged After Alleged Police Chase, Taser Standoff

JONESBORO, Ark. — Amanda Ellen Lewis, 49, is facing felony and misdemeanor charges following an incident involving a pursuit and confrontation with law enforcement earlier this month.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the incident began on Feb. 3, 2026, when a Bay police officer advised that Lewis had a vehicle failing to yield. Jonesboro police were asked to help locate the suspect vehicle, which was reported traveling northbound on Nettles Drive inside city limits.

The affidavit states that officers took over the pursuit and deployed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, or TVI, to stop the vehicle. Police allege Lewis failed to follow commands and locked herself inside the vehicle while speaking on the phone.

Officers reported observing a light blue handheld taser in Lewis’ hand. Despite repeated commands to drop the taser, police say she refused to comply. Craighead County deputies then broke a window to gain access to the locked vehicle.

Once access was gained, a Jonesboro police officer entered the back seat and attempted to pin Lewis while holding a taser in an effort to disarm her. The affidavit alleges Lewis fired the taser multiple times at officers during the struggle.

Lewis was eventually disarmed, removed from the vehicle, and taken into custody. She is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, a Class D felony, and fleeing, a misdemeanor.

Bond was set at $200,000 by Judge Ralph Wilson. Lewis rambled incoherently during her court appearance, prompting the judge to order a mental evaluation. She is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 27.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
