JONESBORO, Ark. — Two suspects, including a juvenile, have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night in the 2500 block of Caraway Road, according to the Jonesboro Police Department.
Police said dispatch received a “shots heard” call at approximately 10:44 p.m. Monday. Officers, including members of the Bravo Squad, were quickly dispatched to the area.
An officer already in the vicinity encountered two individuals. When a second officer arrived to assist, police discovered Shane Delaney, 50, lying in the parking lot behind a hotel with an apparent gunshot wound, according to authorities. Delaney was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police said Eugine Jackson and a 16-year-old male were taken into custody and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center on charges of first-degree murder.
According to a probable cause affidavit, JPD responded ot a hotel on January 6 and located a victim with a gunshot wound to the back.
Officers observed two subjects leaving the scene. They were detained and identified as Eugine Jackson and juvenile Xaylan Crawford.
During a frisk of Jackson, officers located a turquoise-colored .380-caliber pistol on his person.
Jackson and Crawford were transported to the Jonesboro Police Department for further investigation. Both suspects were advised of their Miranda rights and acknowledged understanding those rights. Investigators reported that both voluntarily waived their right to an attorney and agreed to speak with officers.
During interviews, Jackson and Crawford reportedly admitted to meeting the victim in the parking lot behind the business to conduct a drug transaction. According to the affidavit, Jackson admitted that he shot the victim during the transaction.
The affidavit states that the gunshot wound to the victim’s back was consistent with the statements provided by both suspects.
On Friday, Judge David Boling set bail at $5 million cash or surety with conditions for a GPS ankle monitor, no alcohol or drugs, and no weapons.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
