JONESBORO — A 19-year-old was arrested after police say he fled from a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop attempt on West Nettleton Avenue, according to a probable cause affidavit.
According to the affidavit, a Jonesboro Police Department officer was patrolling the area of West Nettleton Avenue and Loberg Street on Dec. 25 when he observed a silver Ford Focus passenger car traveling west. The officer noted that both front doors were open while the vehicle was still moving.
Police said the vehicle fled, prompting coordination with other officers to establish a perimeter for a K-9 track. The vehicle was later located abandoned.
Officers conducting the track later located Roydarian Leshun Parker, 19, hiding under the back porch of a residence on Stonemill Drive, according to the affidavit.
Parker was detained while officers verified information related to the vehicle. Police contacted the vehicle’s owner, who reported the car had been stolen and said they were not aware of the theft before being contacted by officers.
Parker was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center and charged with theft by receiving greater than $5,000, a Class C felony, and fleeing.
Jail records also list an additional breaking or entering charge and a failure-to-appear warrant. Notes within the affidavit state Parker is currently on probation and was already out on bond for an aggravated assault charge from July.
Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
