CLAY COUNTY, Ark. — A Missouri man faces 20 counts of animal cruelty after deputies say multiple Beagles were found neglected on a rural Clay County road.
According to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, the sheriff’s department received a report on Nov. 12 of several Beagles being mistreated on County Road 441 between McDougal and Boydsville. The caller reported the dogs were not being properly fed, lacked adequate drinking water, and did not have proper shelter. Deputies were also told that two of the dogs were already dead.
Deputies arrived at the location but were unable to contact the owner. Sheriff Cole said investigators gathered enough information to apply for an arrest warrant.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, deputies arrested David Doyle Crowe, 58, of Parma, Missouri, on 20 counts of cruelty to animals. Sheriff Cole said the department learned Crowe had been arrested twice in Missouri in 2023 for animal cruelty.
Crowe was transported to the Clay County Detention Center. After arriving, he signed over ownership of the surviving dogs to MyZouy Rescue in Corning, which took custody of the animals.
Sheriff Cole thanked the rescue for assisting deputies and taking ownership of the dogs.
The rescue is asking for help raising funds to care for the dogs. They’ve posted several photos, some of which are graphic.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
