Babysitter Arrested After Police Find 3.75 Pounds of Marijuana, AR-15 in Jonesboro Home

JONESBORO, Ark. — A babysitter was arrested after police said they found drugs and a firearm during a probation search at a Jonesboro apartment earlier this week.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the JPD Street Crimes Unit, investigators conducted a probation search on October 28 at an apartment on Warner Avenue for a resident on felony probation. Inside the home, officers found the babysitter, identified as Brayla Lashay Peaster, 22, of Jonesboro, watching an infant.

During the search, police said Peaster was found in a bedroom where investigators later discovered approximately 1,703 grams (3.75 pounds) of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags inside a white backpack. Officers also found an American Tactical .300 Blackout AR-15 rifle between the bed and the wall.

After being read her Miranda rights, Peaster admitted ownership of the firearm and drugs, according to the affidavit.

Peaster was arrested on charges of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a Class Y felony; possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with purpose to deliver, a Class C felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D felony.

On Wednesday, Judge David Boling set bail at $150,000 cash or surety. Her next court date is scheduled for November 25.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
