NEW VIDEO: Suspect Tased After Allegedly Stabbing Walls With Spear During Jonesboro Disturbance

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro suspect was arrested after police said he acted aggressively with a spear inside his home, stabbing the walls and refusing officers’ commands.

On Oct. 24, 2025, officers with the Jonesboro Police Department were dispatched to a reported domestic disturbance. Dispatchers told responding officers that a man, identified as Gregory Allen Gerdes, 49, was inside the home, stabbing the walls with a spear and behaving aggressively.

According to the probable cause affidavit, an adult female — identified as Gerdes’ wife — could be heard during the call telling him to get his hands off of her. When officers arrived, they met the woman and one of the couple’s juvenile children outside the home.

Police said Gerdes was still inside, stabbing the walls with a spear. Officers ordered him several times to drop the weapon and show his hands. After he refused, an officer deployed a Taser, causing him to fall. As police moved in, Gerdes allegedly lunged at them and was tased again before being taken into custody.

The adult victim told police Gerdes had been drinking and calling her names, causing her to fear for her safety. A juvenile witness also said she was afraid because Gerdes had a spear and was striking the walls.

Gerdes was arrested and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center. He faces charges of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, a Class D felony; and first-degree assault and resisting arrest, both Class A misdemeanors.

Judge Tommy Fowler set bail at $25,000 cash or surety and issued a no-contact order.

Gerdes previously pleaded guilty to second-degree battery in 2012, receiving three years’ probation. In the probable cause affidavit for that incident, Gerdes allegedly went into a rage, began destroying property in his house, then attacked a man with a sword, causing an injury with a glancing blow.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
