According to court records, Romello Ware is scheduled to appear in Crittenden County Circuit Court on Nov. 3. Ware faces multiple charges following an August 8 pursuit that ended after a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) by Arkansas State Police near the 1-mile marker southbound.
In a probable cause affidavit, a state trooper reported spotting a green Honda Accord traveling southbound around 4:17 p.m. with expired registration tags and a driver who was not wearing a seatbelt. When the trooper activated his lights, Ware allegedly accelerated to about 75 mph in a 65 mph zone and refused to stop.
After several failed attempts to box the vehicle in, the trooper said he performed a successful TVI, causing Ware’s vehicle to strike a concrete bridge barrier. Ware allegedly continued traveling down the shoulder of the interstate before the trooper rammed the vehicle to prevent escape.
The affidavit said the trooper drew his service weapon and detained Ware, who reportedly smelled strongly of marijuana. A subsequent search allegedly uncovered an open can of alcohol, a half-smoked marijuana blunt, and other evidence inside the vehicle.
Ware was arrested and taken to the Crittenden County Jail. He refused a chemical test, according to the affidavit.
He is charged with felony fleeing, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance (Schedule VI less than 4 ounces), DWI, refusal to submit to a chemical test, open container, improper lane usage, speeding, driving with suspended registration, no liability insurance, and no seatbelt.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
