PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted a woman during a domestic disturbance and resisted arrest while intoxicated.
Officers with the Paragould Police Department were dispatched July 30 to a residence following a report of a domestic altercation. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a female victim who reported that William Carlstrom had assaulted her while she was driving.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Carlstrom was upset and wanted to be taken to his family’s residence. The victim told officers that while driving near the library, Carlstrom began choking her from the passenger seat and punched her in the face.
Officers reported observing visible injuries on the victim’s face and neck consistent with her account.
Carlstrom, who appeared to be intoxicated, was located a short distance from the scene. Police said he refused to comply with commands and resisted officers as they attempted to take him into custody.
Due to his level of intoxication, Carlstrom was not interviewed and was transported to the Greene County Jail.
He is charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony; resisting arrest, a Class B misdemeanor; and public intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor.
On Monday, Judge Dan Stidham set bail at $10,000 cash only.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
