JONESBORO, Ark. — A Bay man is facing charges, including a Class Y felony, after police allege they arrested him with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms after a chase over the weekend in Jonesboro.
The probable cause affidavit states that on July 19, 2025, an officer conducted a traffic stop for unconfirmed insurance at Union and Matthews. While attempting the traffic stop, the suspect vehicle rolled through a red light and came to a stop. The officer began to exit his vehicle, noticing the driver looking in the rear-view mirror. The driver, later identified as Scott Brown, fled from the stop.
The vehicle continued Eastbound on Oak Street, coming to Oak and Church. The suspect ran a stop sign and almost caused a traffic accident with an ambulance. The vehicle continued east on Oak, turning south on Rains, and then running a red light at Rains and Nettleton. A supervisor called off the pursuing Jonesboro officer. Arkansas State Police were then notified.
A state trooper continued the pursuit while Jonesboro officers drove at a controlled speed behind. Brown reportedly drove erratically and nearly collided with an officer, who had to pull over to the side of the road to avoid crashing. Eventually, Brown rolled his vehicle into a yard on Elmwood and hit a retaining wall.
However, he wasn’t finished running. The affidavit says he exited the vehicle and began to run on foot. The state trooper tased him, causing him to fall. He was taken into custody.
A search of the suspect vehicle led police to find a Walther 9mm. Brown was searched at the jail and found to have a baggie with 2.1 grams of suspected meth. According to the affidavit, the baggie was found in his buttocks.
Scott Allen Brown, 34, of Bay, faces the following charges:
- Simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a Class Y felony
- Possession of firearm by certain persons/prior violent felony, a Class B felony
- Possession of meth or cocaine, gt 2 grams but lt 10 grams, a Class C felony
- Fleeing, a Class C felony
- Tampering with physical evidence, a Class D felony
- No proof of liability insurance
- Reckless driving
- Driving while license is cancelled, suspended, or revoked
Brown had a lot to say on Monday during his court appearance before Judge Tommy Fowler. As the judge read the charges, Brown interrupted to say he did not have a prior violent felony. The judge mentioned two residential burglary cases. Brown argued that the judge was wrong.
Judge Fowler noted Brown’s history, including fleeing, and referred to him in the affidavit as a “danger to the public.” Bail was set at $125,000 cash-only.
“Why you gonna do me like that?” Brown said to the judge.
Fowler began to answer by listing Brown’s record, but Brown wasn’t interested in hearing it. He turned his back on the judge and walked out of the holding room, where inmates appear in court via Zoom.
Brown’s next appearance in court is scheduled for 8:30 AM on August 21.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
