Jonesboro Drug Arrest Leads to K9 Attack, Dog Shot

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man was arrested following a traffic stop earlier this week, and a subsequent search of his home led to a drug seizure and the fatal shooting of a dog that attacked a police K9 during the raid.

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, JPD conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford F-150 near Wood Street and Parker Road for unconfirmed insurance. The driver was identified as Clinton Hutchison, confirmed to have a suspended driver’s license, without proof of liability insurance, and on valid probation, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Hutchison was taken into custody, and a probation search was conducted. Four grams of suspected methamphetamine and $552 in cash were found, along with a marijuana roach in the vehicle.

While he was in custody, DTF agents obtained a search warrant, signed by Judge David Boling. The warrant covered Hutchison’s residence.

In his bedroom, officers reported finding a green ammunition can containing two packages of Zig Zag rolling papers, 62 small plastic bags commonly used to package narcotics, a Focus Bank debit card belonging to a third party, and various other items of paraphernalia. Police found a digital scale with a scoop on one end that appeared to contain suspected meth residue.

Approximately 66.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine was recovered, along with a used meth pipe, weed pipe, baggies, and marijuana.

According to JPD’s Sally Smith, during the execution of the warrant, a police K9 was attacked by a dog in the residence. An officer shot and killed the attacking dog.

NEA Report submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for the video. Although the case is under investigation, making the video exempt from a records request, JPD released a small segment of the officer’s body cam showing the incident. The name of the officer involved has not yet been released.

Warning: this video may be upsetting to some viewers:

The 12-second video shows an officer, with K9 Tiger, standing at the back door of the residence. An unrestrained dog approaches and begins jumping at, then biting, the K9. After pulling the K9 away for several seconds and shouting to get the dog, the officer fired a single shot, immobilizing the dog. Police reported that the dog immediately stopped breathing and died on the scene.

K9 Tiger was transported to a veterinary facility to be treated for injuries. The vet noted bite wounds. The police dog was back at work on Friday, and according to Smith, appeared to be okay.

Clinton Earl Hutchison, 56, of Jonesboro, faces charges including possession of meth with purpose to deliver, greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams, a Class A felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D felony; misdemeanor possession and no insurance charges. He appeared before Judge David Boling on Friday for his bond hearing. Bail was set at $7,500 cash or surety

DTF is still investigating the case, according to JPD.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  1. I am not seeing any evidence that officer did not just murder that dog. Poorly handled K-9 units lead to dangerous and dumb choices, e.i discharging the firearm instead of having control of the K9. This officer needs to be removed from K9 duty before he puts that dog in danger again.

What do you think?
