PARAGOULD, Ark. — Skeletal remains were discovered southwest of Lake Ashbaugh on Monday afternoon, according to a Facebook post by Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder.
Around 1:45 p.m., a Greene County detective and a civilian search party member noticed a strong odor commonly associated with decomposition while searching the area. Further investigation led the detective to locate skeletal remains in an advanced state of decomposition.
Because of the condition of the remains, the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory will be responsible for making a positive identification. The Greene County Coroner’s Office is handling the process of transporting the remains to the lab for examination.
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Company F, is assisting in the case, but the Greene County Sheriff’s Department remains the lead agency in the investigation.
Sheriff Snyder said no further information would be released until the results were received from the crime lab.
