Ex-Boyfriend Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Woman with Firearm at Jonesboro Pawn Shop

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man was arrested after police say he pulled a gun on his ex-girlfriend at a pawn shop before being found with a firearm and marijuana during a traffic stop.

Police responded on May 10 to a pawn shop on E. Nettleton about a subject who had allegedly pulled a firearm on a female there. The suspect had already left the scene. Police made contact with the alleged victim, who said her ex-boyfriend, Keithan Overton, 23, had pulled a gun on her and threatened to kill her before driving off.

Officers reviewed video footage from the business and noted observing Overton enter and exit the store after trying to sell a firearm. Officers noted seeing a firearm in Overton’s right hand. A witness on the scene advised officers Overton was trying to sell the firearm but was denied.

Officers noted seeing Overton talking to the victim in the parking lot but did not observe him point the firearm at the victim, the affidavit said.

Police were provided a tag number for Overton’s vehicle. Officers pulled Overton over on Phillips Drive and took him into custody. Police located a handgun under the passenger seat. Officers also found 4.3 grams of marijuana.

Overton is on probation and has a past felony conviction, the affidavit said.

On May 12, detectives interviewed the subject. The affidavit states that he admitted to possessing the marijuana and firearm that officers located in the vehicle.

Overton is facing charges including first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony, and possession of a firearm by certain persons/prior felony, a Class D felony. The suspect also faces a misdemeanor possession charge.

Overton appeared before Judge Tommy Fowler for his bond hearing on May 12, with the judge noting he is on probation and wanted for failure to appear. Bail was set at $75,000 cash or surety with a GPS ankle monitor and a no-contact order in place. His next court date is June 27.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
