JONESBORO, Ark. – Jonesboro police and federal agents arrested four men last week in connection with a series of ATM robberies across the southeastern United States, authorities said.
On April 3, investigators with the Jonesboro Police Department Street Crimes Unit, the Drug Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Jonesboro received information from HSI Memphis and the Memphis Multi-Agency Gang Unit about suspects believed to be involved in the robberies, officials said in a news release.
Using Flock license plate recognition cameras, officers located one of the suspect vehicles on Phillips Drive. The vehicle was found in the parking lot of a local hotel.
A second vehicle description, provided by HSI and the FBI’s Atlanta Field Office, was also located at the same hotel, according to police.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on one of the vehicles at the intersection of Race Street and Caraway Road, where Felix Josue Rendon-Garcia was arrested on a robbery warrant out of Georgia. A video of the stop was posted to Facebook.
Investigators then searched a hotel room where they located three additional suspects allegedly associated with Rendon-Garcia. All four men were transported to the Craighead County Detention Center and are being held on immigration detainers and out-of-state warrants.
Authorities identified the suspects as Jose David Rivas Sifontes, Juan Jose Marin Garcia, Alexander Jose Marquez Caraballo and Rendon-Garcia. Police said the men are known affiliates of Tren de Aragua, a foreign terrorist organization based in Venezuela.
Investigators executed a search warrant on the hotel room and recovered more than $46,000 in cash, along with items believed to have been used in the robberies, police said.
Federal charges are being pursued by Homeland Security Investigations.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
