Brookland School District Acquires 103 Acres for Expansion

BROOKLAND, Ark. — The Brookland School District has secured 103 acres for a major expansion to accommodate its growing student population.

The district, recognized in 2022 as one of the fastest-growing in Arkansas, partnered with Haag Brown to evaluate potential sites. They focused on traffic flow, accessibility, and proximity to the existing campus.

“Brookland School is a vital part of the City of Brookland’s future,” Mayor Kenneth Jones said.

The district purchased the land from longtime Brookland resident Tony Elmore in a two-phase transaction. The first parcel was acquired in February 2024, with the final tract closing in January 2025.

“There were several significant hurdles to overcome—annexing and zoning, traffic considerations, infrastructure capabilities and survey discrepancies, just to name a few,” Jeff Armstrong of Haag Brown Commercial said. “But through collaboration with the city and the determination of the school board, we successfully navigated these challenges to make this expansion a reality.”

The first phase of development will focus on building an intermediate school designed to provide an innovative learning environment for students.

“The acquisition of this new property for the Brookland School District will allow us to better serve our school and our community,” Superintendent Brett Bunch said. “With our growth and the vision of our school board, we will be able to continue to provide an exceptional education and job future for our students.”

The site, located along U.S. Highway 49 between Arkansas 230 and Craighead Road 950, is about two miles northeast of the current campus. The district has enlisted Nabholz Construction to oversee development.

“Our firm has played a role in 20 deals in Brookland over the past decade, many of them notable,” said Joshua Brown, co-founder of Haag Brown Commercial. “However, no real estate transaction is more significant to the city than the sale of these 100 acres to the Brookland school system. This deal will shape the commercial and residential landscape for the next 20 years.”

Haag Brown commended the Brookland School Board and Superintendent Bunch for their leadership in advancing the district’s future.
