JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect is facing the potential of up to a life sentence for an alleged aggravated robbery and shooting recently in Jonesboro.
On Jan. 14, 2025, officers with the Jonesboro Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Harrisburg Road and the western Links Drive entrance, a probable cause affidavit said. A male subject was reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers found the victim in the vehicle of a witness, verifying he was shot.
Around the same time, other officers located a white passenger car in front of 1900 Links. The vehicle was unoccupied, running, with flashing lights on, and three doors open.
Detectives determined the victim had driven the vehicle to the location where officers found him, and had been shot inside of it by a male suspect in the backseat. The suspect allegedly pulled the gun to rob both the victim and a front-seat passenger. The victim grabbed the gun from the suspect and during the struggle, the gun discharged, striking him in the chest.
As the investigation continued, detectives gained video footage from a witness showing a male exiting an apartment at 1900 Links and talking on the phone just prior to the shooting. Detectives interviewed another witness that was seen driving the suspect from the complex just after the shooting. The witness reportedly told police the suspect admitted to the shooting and provided a photo.
The suspect was identified as Keyon Juan Minor, 22, of Jonesboro. A bench warrant was signed for his arrest on Jan. 17 and on Jan. 21, he surrendered himself to JPD, the affidavit said.
Minor faces charges of Aggravated Robbery, a Class Y felony, and First-Degree Battery, a Class B felony. Class Y felonies can carry 10 to 40 years or life in prison while Class B felonies are punishable by 5 to 20 years.
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, Minor appeared in court before Judge David Boling for his bond hearing. Prosecutor Jessica Thomason requested a $250,000 cash or surety bond, noting that Minor is presently facing an open case for a similar incident in Mississippi County. Judge Boling departed from the request of the State and issued bail at $500,000 cash or surety.
Minor also has a $2,500 cash-only bond for two failure to appear charges in Jonesboro.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 28, 2025.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
