JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman faces drug charges including fentanyl after her arrest on Tuesday in Jonesboro.
Kathryn Diane Smith/Cole, 37, faces charges including Possession of fentanyl with the purpose to deliver, a Class C felony; Possession of a Schedule I or II substance, a Class D felony; Tampering with physical evidence, a Class D felony; Possession of schedule IV or V, a Class A misdemeanor; no seat belt, ran stop sign, and expired vehicle registration, unclassified misdemeanors.
She appeared before Judge Tommy Fowler for her probable cause hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 15. The judge determined her to be a danger to the community, due to the alleged fentanyl. Taking this into account, the judge set bail at $125,000 cash-only, meaning not bondable, with a GPS ankle monitor requirement.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Jan. 14, 2025, agents with the Second Judicial District Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a maroon Chevy SUV near Loberg Lane and Rosemond Avenue in Jonesboro, due to the driver not wearing a seat belt and running a stop sign. The vehicle’s plates were also expired from Nov. 2024.
Agents advised the driver of the reason for the stop and reportedly smelled marijuana. A search was conducted in which agents found a pink pill container that held several different pills. The driver was taken into custody.
Officers reported searching the back seat before the suspect was placed in the patrol vehicle. When they arrived at the jail, investigators found a Zip-Loc bag in the backseat containing one gram of powder that field tested positive for Fentanyl. The affidavit says the baggie was placed in the backseat by Cole.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 28, 2025.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
