PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man has been arrested on charges of domestic battery and assault after a reported domestic dispute involving multiple family members, including juveniles, on Jan. 11.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Highway 135 North at approximately 11:46 a.m. after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance, according to the probable cause affidavit. Responding officers were also told that children were present in the home and that one child had fled to the highway.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect, Thomas Heringer, and an adult female. Heringer and the woman provided conflicting accounts of the incident. Heringer alleged that the woman initiated the altercation by yelling and throwing objects after accusing him of infidelity. The woman claimed Heringer had threatened her and physically attacked her.
According to the police report, the woman stated that during the argument, Heringer pushed her onto a bed and attempted to strangle her. She displayed a laceration on her leg, which she said was caused by Heringer throwing objects.
During the altercation, a juvenile male reportedly intervened by striking Heringer with a stick to stop the assault. The juvenile then fled the residence to the highway. He later informed officers that Heringer had chased him and struck him with a paddle, causing redness to his wrist.
Two other juveniles in the home told officers they did not witness the altercation but heard it. One of the juveniles stated that Heringer kicked open a door near her and yelled at her. She also handed officers a bag containing four Clonazepam pills, which she claimed she had hidden from Heringer.
Heringer was arrested on charges that included third-degree domestic battering and two counts of third-degree assault on a family member. He was transported to the Greene County Jail, where he remains in custody.
Judge Dan Stidham set Heringer’s bail at $5,000 cash and issued a no-contact order.
Police confirmed that the pills found in the residence were secured as evidence.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
