Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation Awards $50,000 to Trumann Homeless Shelter

TRUMANN, Ark. – An NEA homeless shelter is hoping to do more and raise more after a big donation came through, a press release announced this week.

Stepping Stone Sanctuary, a transitional and emergency homeless shelter located in Trumann, is one step closer to accommodating homeless men, a release said after the Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation awarded them a $50,000 grant.

The King Foundation was established in 1966, according to its website. The foundation’s policies focus on the needy in Arkansas.

Stepping Stone Sanctuary Executive Director Heather Shrader calls this grant “a much-needed win for the men’s dorm.”

“There aren’t many options for homeless men in our area. We receive multiple calls every day requesting a bed for a male, and this grant will make it possible to accommodate their needs.“

Stepping Stone hopes to complete renovations to their men’s dorm by the Spring of 2025.

Shrader said some choices lead to homelessness, but no one truly chooses to be homeless.

“Our communities make the choice every day to either look away from the needs of the homeless or turn their efforts toward a solution.”
