PARAGOULD, Ark. – Two people ended up facing charges recently in Paragould and both incidents were related to fighting.
The first incident was detailed in a probable cause affidavit released by the PPD. It says on May 29, 2024, police responded to a residence on E. Lake Street for reports of a fight. They learned a physical altercation had occurred between the victim and his stepfather, the defendant, Danny Weaver.
The victim alleged that Weaver had pulled out a small pocketknife during the altercation. Police noted the victim had a stab wound to the hand and lower forearm. Police also noted Weaver admitted going after the victim with a knife.
Danny Weaver, 46, of Caraway, faces a second degree domestic battering charge, a Class C felony in this case.
In a separate incident on May 31, Paragould officers responded to the 600-block of E. Emerson in regards to a fight in progress. When they arrived, police found a victim bleeding with a laceration to the top left side of his head. The victim told police he got into an altercation with the defendant, who allegedly struck him in the head with a wooden stick while he wasn’t looking. The victim was transported to a hospital and received staples to close the wound.
Officers noted when they confronted the defendant, he was holding a blue wooden stick that appeared to have the dimensions of a broom handle. It was broken into two pieces.
Matthew Rivera, 34, of Paragould, faces a second degree battery charges, a Class D felony in this instance.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
