Fatal Shooting on April 12 Was Self-Defense, JPD Says

JONESBORO, Ark. – One person was killed and another injured in a shooting Friday night, April 12, in Jonesboro. Police believe it was an attempted robbery and the suspect was shot in self-defense.

Shortly before 10 PM, the Jonesboro Police Department responded to a shooting at the corner of Richardson Drive and Race Street, where Race Street Market is located, according to information posted by the department to social media.

Upon arrival, they secured the scene and located Lamarion Bailey, 18, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers later reported a male, Damariantae Russell, 23, had arrived at a local hospital with an apparent gunshot wound that was related to this crime.

On Tuesday, authorities updated that it was determined the shooting was the result of an attempted robbery. Authorities say the suspect, Bailey, and the intended victim, Russell, exchanged gunfire and the suspect was killed.

The file will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review, police said.
