Imboden Native Earns Promotion to Brigadier General in the Arkansas National Guard

CAMP JOSEPH T. ROBINSON, NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An Imboden native and current Sherwood resident will be seeing stars on his shoulders Saturday afternoon.

Col. Michael C. Henderson will be promoted to the rank of brigadier general in a ceremony at 1 p.m. April 6.

“This is a great day for the Arkansas National Guard,” said Maj. Gen. Jonathan Stubbs, Arkansas’ adjutant general. “Mike is a tremendous officer, and he is richly deserving of this promotion.”

The colonel started his military career in the enlisted ranks when he joined in 1993 as a combat engineer, stationed in Paragould. He commissioned a second lieutenant after graduating from Officer Candidate School in 1996.

He’s served in various roles as he moved up the ranks, including as a platoon leader, battalion administrative officer, battalion personnel officer, brigade training officer, brigade administrative officer, brigade executive officer, battalion commander, operations officer, deputy chief of staff for operations, Arkansas Army National Guard chief of staff, commander of the 233rd Regional Training Institute, and his current role as director of the joint staff.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, and the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters.

He has a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology and a master’s degree in business administration from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Air Force’s Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.
