Jonesboro Police Warn of New Scam

JONESBORO, Ark. – A new scam is going around NEA, the Jonesboro Police Department said on Friday.

Scammers are calling residents and claiming that they are Sgt. Lane Holmes with JPD, and that the residents have a Failure to Appear warrant on a charge.

The scammer continues by asking for the victim to get a Green Dot gift card with $480 and give him the card number over the phone to do a Bond/Validation of Funds. The con-artist then tells the victim if they go to the police department before the validation, they will be arrested on sight.

“Our Sgt. Holmes is not calling you,” JPD said in a release on social media.

Police say if you receive a call, do not give them your information. Hang up and call your local authorities if you’re not sure.
