Dispatch Logs Reveal More About Fatal Shooting in Monette

JONESBORO, Ark. – As investigators continue to piece together the events of Sunday evening’s fatal shooting in Monette, we are learning more about what happened, as well.

Steven Hunter Allen was killed in the incident, confirmed the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

Pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act request by NEA Report, the City of Jonesboro released the 911 records Tuesday morning.

The call logs began at 11:25 PM, with a caller to 911 stating that his sister’s husband, Hunter Allen, had struck his sister and mother. The name of the caller is redacted but is known to be off-duty Trumann officer Brett Williams, who was already at the address at County Road 506 in Monette.

The caller stated he had a firearm pointed on Allen. The dispatcher reported that the caller said there were too many people there for him to keep wrestling with the subject, indicating a physical struggle had already begun. The caller was armed with a Glock 15 and identified himself to dispatch as an off-duty officer for the Trumann Police Department. According to the 911 call, Hunter was intoxicated and eventually went into the house with the caller’s sister, locking the door. The mother and step-father were locked outside. The line went dead after this.

At 11:29 PM, a second caller was noted in the log. At 11:30 PM, dispatchers logged that the sister’s husband had been shot in the chest. The male shooter was standing out front. 911 instructed him to put the firearm away and to have his hands up when officers arrived.

At this point, 11:32 PM, the male who sustained gunshot wounds was still breathing and responsive, according to dispatch logs. He was shot in the chest twice.

By 11:36 PM, a sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene and dispatchers noted that chest seals had been applied. The deputy reported the subject was bleeding heavily. A helicopter was requested at 11:40 PM and police staged a landing zone for the aircraft. EMS reportedly arrived on scene at 11:53 PM.

At 11:56 PM, a deputy reported a male suspect was detained upon the deputy’s arrival. The deputy took possession of the firearm. A separate male was also detained by another deputy.

At 12 AM, Monette command advised the helicopter request had been canceled.

By 12:12 AM, EMS was enroute to St. Bernards Medical Center. The hospital was notified that they would be receiving a gunshot victim but the severity wasn’t known. At 12:15 AM, EMTs reported they were still actively doing chest compressions on the patient and had been for the past 30 minutes.

At 12:36 AM, a deputy requested another ambulance to respond for a 28-year-old female who had a gash to her head and multiple bruises. She was awake and responsive. Authorities logged her injuries while she received medical care.

By 12:55 AM, deputies were requesting phone calls from the coroner related to Hunter Allen.

Between 1:27 AM and 1:45 AM, deputies report taking possession of firearms from both the victim and the suspect.

By this point, investigators had established their crime scene and were beginning to piece through the chaotic events leading up to the shooting. The last entries in the logs are from authorities notifying next of kin of the death.

The investigation is still on-going and authorities with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office will submit their findings to the prosecuting attorney for review of possible charges.

No arrests have been made in the case.

    • Officer who shot/killed victim was the brother of victim’s wife. He wasn’t even on duty! Smh 🤬

  1. The whole thing sounds horribly suspicious to me. An off duty cop follows victim to the victims mother’s home …???? And then proceeds to shoot him TWICE in the chest!!! The off duty cop is at a superbowl party supposedly to “ keep people in line “ give me a break….. I am very inclined to think this cop went there to kill this man for revenge for his sister. That would make it premeditated murder.

  2. Also …. This cop had better not get off just because he is a cop. He broke I don’t know how many laws, or at the very least, police ethics.

  3. Why do people comment when they don’t have a clue what really happened OR what they would have done in the same situation?

  4. I think if you watch the video you will see that the officer was not trying to kill this man. He was trying to deal with the situation calmly but other guy wasn’t going to go along with it. I would have done the same thing in this officers situation.

  5. This girl is a first class drama queen, she has not changed her ways since this. She is now accusing others of harming her including nursing staff at NEA hospital. She’s the kinda person if she is not getting attention she will create scenarios that require attention. Ya need to stay away from her.
