Greene County Arrests Follow Tip on Malnourished Animals

GREENE COUNTY, Ark. – A tip regarding malnourished dogs prompted the Greene County Sheriff’s Department to make two arrests this week.

The sheriff’s department received a tip on November 29 about malnourished dogs located on Greene 707 Road, as outlined in the probable cause affidavit provided by the sheriff. Deputies investigated the tip and discovered a distressing situation.

Upon arrival, several dogs were found in the front yard, visibly emaciated with prominent rib cages, lacking access to food or water. Some of the dogs exhibited protruding pelvic bones and spines.

Subsequently, on December 1, authorities executed a search warrant at the residence to remove the malnourished animals. Among the distressing discoveries, deputies found a hedgehog confined in a plastic tub with punctured holes on the lid. Another plastic tub contained a severely underweight guinea pig with a facial injury, stacked atop the hedgehog’s container. Additionally, a tan medium-sized dog was found tethered with visible pelvic bones, ribs, and spine protruding through the skin.

Cheyann Nicole Leonard faces charges of aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat, or equine—a Class D felony—and two misdemeanors for cruelty to animals involving the hedgehog and guinea pig.

Edward Rouse was arrested on a charge of aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat, or equine, also a Class D felony.
