JONESBORO, Ark. – Authorities are grappling with conflicting accounts after responding to a shots-fired call around 6:31 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the 600-block of Warner Avenue.
Initially, witnesses claimed someone from the 700-block had fired a gun at them. However, when police confronted the accused individual, they found a bag of fireworks instead of a firearm. The suspect insisted the incident was merely fireworks-related.
Upon returning to the initial scene for further investigation, a victim alleged that individuals in a truck had stared them down before one person brandished what they eventually described as a “9” and began shooting. Despite these claims, officers found no shell casings or bullet holes, and none of the alleged victims were willing to submit written statements.
Due to insufficient evidence and lack of cooperation from the alleged victims, the case has been closed.
While discharging fireworks within city limits is a violation of local ordinances, police rarely enforce this particular rule.
