Mayor’s Youth Advancement Council Applications Open; Bike-a-thon Announced

Applications are now open for the Mayor’s Youth Advancement Council in Jonesboro. The group announced an upcoming event on Thursday.

The primary mission of the Mayor’s Youth Advancement Council of Jonesboro is to involve youth in community issues and decisions, to advise the Mayor and City Council of the youth’s perspective, and to empower future leaders to become engaged within their community. The council currently has six Task Force Committees.

All of which also do service projects within the community each year.

Applications are open through the month of March and close promptly at midnight on April 1, 2022. All rising tenth through twelfth grade students in Jonesboro area schools, home schooled, or private school students are encouraged to apply. To apply, visit http://www.jonesboro.org.

Through the partnership of two MYAC Task Forces, Health & Safety, and Community Outreach, the idea for a Spring Bike-A-Thon was born. In an effort to bring awareness to the importance of healthy living, while injecting a little fun and also making this event a FUNdraiser, we are excited to announce the first-ever MYAC annual Bike-A-Thon! This year, we will split any proceeds with Make-A-Wish Foundation, so that local children who are not afforded perfect health might see a small wish come true.

We will meet at Craighead Forest Park, Access Road 1, Pavilion #1, the trailhead of the bike path, on Saturday, April 23, 2022. The race will commence at exactly 9:00 AM and riders will complete two laps, equaling a 10K cycling event, youth and senior divisions will make only one lap. We hope you will join us by either riding in the event, becoming a ghost rider, or simply by donating. Together we have the power to make wishes come true and to support our vision of service within our own community.

Online registration will close on April 22nd at 11:59 PM. Online registration with a t-shirt guaranteed in your size will close on April 8th at 8:00 AM. Those who registered after this date will not be guaranteed a t-shirt. Shirt sizes and availability will be first-come, first-served on the morning of the event until they are out of stock.
